Is it possible to save a post as a draft so that I can return later to finish setting it up?
Or an I supposed to date the post to like a year from now and then go fetch it to edit it? -- which is awkward.

no, there aren't drafts, sorry
the only workaround is adding the post as scheduled with future date as you proposed.
for all the years the software exists nobody asked for a draft option and i haven't thought of it at all. I can look for implementing one for next version.. _________________ Thanks,
