Well, I believe I've done everything correctly, but I still can't get links to show up on a remote server. I've used both php codes and neither work. i've also played around with the templates, and still nothing.
Can you help?

yes, sure i can help, but it might be best to pm me url and pass to your LO admin, so i can look what you might did wrong.
Check first if you have trades for the site, and if they are active.
Also check if you have included the necessary variables in your template
