Hi, I hope you can help..... again

I'm a little confused about sitemaps - I see the /bomaps directory gets updated, but does google see this?

Shouldn't the sitemaps be in the blog directory itself? apologies if its obvious, I have used wp in the past with a seo plugin.

i see a %%GSITEMAP%% and %%SITEMAP%% tag, should these be utilised in the template?

thanks in advance

It's not obvious unless you look at your blog's .htaccess file. Google will see the /bomaps updates... IF you give it the path to the BO directory.

You set the path for Googlebot by adding the token(s) into your template, which work with the htaccess file in your blog's directory to rewrite the request. The tokens output a clean URL, so you'll need to use then in this format:

<A HREF="%%SITEMAP%%">Sitemap</a> and

<A HREF="%%GSITEMAP%%">Google</a>

thanks very much rhino, you are a good man

so if I add them somewhere to the template, I should be okay?

Is anywhere better than another?

thanks again rhino

IMO somewhere in the footer area.

I include the sitemap token statements in the same area I use for my legal notices (2257 and copyright, etc.), as surfers tend to pass over that area without clicking anything... but it's still spidered.

Code:
<link rel="sitemap" href="http://www.mydomain.com/sitemap.xml.gz" type="application/xml" />

Q - will that also work with the %%GSITEMAP%% token i.e.

<link rel="sitemap" href="%%GSITEMAP%%" type="application/xml" />

Edit: OK, answered my own question... it works.

Also reminds me about my BO Wish List Request for Search & Edit capabilities. And now for Search and Search/Replace to be extended to work with templates as well as posts. Very Happy

mhmm i have it usually like that
http://brazzers.vrsx.com/
on the top there is this clickable link for the regular (not zipped) sitemap
+ i submit the google sitemap to google webmaster tools

so the question would me more if there is some advantage of having it in the header as as well?

yes, thats fine. as long as you have a link to your regular or gzipped sitemap somewhere on your site, it is fine. just the head tag appeared recently to be the standart for placing a sitemap reference on your pages..
