I've just started with BO and can't get the Rss feeds working. I've inserted the code for 5 feeds in 'RSS Feeders Settings', set the crawl period to 1440, new post count to 2 and pressed Update but nothing has happened for 2 days. System Events records nothing happening as well.
I don't understand what cronjobs are but there is a list of them at the bottom of my Cronjob Settings page which I gather is how it should be.
Could anyone shed some light please?

well, if you don't have anything appearing at "General Settings->System Events" then your cronjobs are either not setup or working at all.
If you see them in the active cronjobs list in General Settings->Cronjobs
then probably there is problem with them and you should ask your host support to look why they don't run.
If you don't have any cronjobs added, look at
http://support.cheapestwebsoftware.com/viewtopic.php?t=419
to see how manually you can add them.
Unless they are working, BO won't do any automated work.
