I am trying to use RSS feeds from a specific sponsor but am experiencing problems with getting portions of their feeds to show up in the individual blog outputs. The program the publishes the feeds says the issue is in the readers (blog organizer scripts) and not in their feeds. I thought I would provide information on the feeds and what they say concerning them and solicit your feedback / recommendations on how I might overcome these problems.

The problem was discovered when I imported these feeds into BO and they were subsequently outputted to their assigned blogs.

All the blogs in the network are using the latest version of wordpress.

The program puts their affiliate URL linking to their site in the title of the feed, but this doesn't carry through when the feed is posted in the wordpress blog because the post titles are linked to the single post page and thus the affiliate linking seems to be stripped out when the post is viewed on the user output side of the blog.

Here are some basic feeds from this sponsor program. When i view these feeds in IE8 I see no imagery in the feed output, but can see the call for images in the feed source code. In FF3.6 I can see one single image in the upper right of the feed but the remainder of the images in the feeds are only listed as file names in the feed output.

I wrote to the program concerning this issue and here is their response:

-------------------------------------

The current version works and we have not had any bugs or user related
problems reported recently. The links are in place when you hover over the
titles.

This new version of RSS we have seems to work for the vast majority of
affiliates, who were asking us for a redesign for a long time.
Our new RSS is in a more raw form compare to older KinkyDollars RSS or other
program's RSS to ensure the high level of affiliate customization for
everybody's taste.

Please refer to the brief help file from the creators of Kink RSS for commonly
asked questions, such as how to display the media (pictures, etc...)

Here is the help file they had attached to the reply

RSS Frequently Asked Questions

Note
It is important to remember that RSS feeds are not intended to be consumed by humans in their raw form. These are structured data feeds that must be post-processed by some tool that can render html pages based on them. RSS is pure data. There is nothing it in that specifies what should be seen, where, and how. This is completely up to an RSS agent, and that's the beauty of it. We feed you raw (well-formed and valid) data, and you use your aesthetic skills and apply XSLT or other techniques to generate beautiful blogs, free-sites, tgps, whatever.

Please, be aware that RSS Feeds usage requires technical knowledge of XML/RSS standards, aggregators and related technologies. Visit http://www.xul.fr/en-xml-rss.html for a tutorial.

FAQs

The pictures are not showing up in RSS. What do I do?

Different RSS readers parse RSS feeds differently. The fact that you don't see pictures in your RSS reader means that it is not configured to render them. Image links are there. Just open the RSS source and find tags <media:thumbnail> that have attribute 'url' that points to thumbnail.

Your RSS seems to be different from other affiliate programs. What are the differences?

Our RSS is more robust in that is gives the webmaster multiple options with the content it delivers. It is also different in that it requires the use of an inline RSS parser. This means the webmaster needs to do some additional programming to surface the extra content.

Do I need a plug-in to use RSS with WordPress?

Yes, this is the WordPress plug-in that people use for supporting the MRSS stuff (media:content, etc.). It’s called InlineRSS. http://www.iconophobia.com/wordpress/?page_id=55

I tried yesterday to change from your old RSS Feeds to the new Feeds. But if I use it I get only a textpost without any pictures or links to kinky dollars. I tried it on many of my blogs but on no one the new Feeds work fine. Is there a trick to use the new Feeds or what can I do to use your feeds again?

Some RSS aggregators need to be specially configured, and some are not capable of properly rendering all the features of RSS feeds.

It would be great if I could use your hosted galleries in RSS flux for blod for wordpress with the plugin "feedwordpress" Will you create tool like this?

Your request has been passed to our Engineering Department. At this moment we cannot tell you when this feature will be added.

I'm kinda new to RSS. I set up a blog. How do I get the RSS/XML code to post on the blog?

Unfortunately, we cannot give technical advice on how to integrate our RSS Feeds in various blogs/aggregators. Our RSS Feeds are compliant with "The Atom Syndication Format" (http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc4287) and "Media RSS" Specification Version 1.1.2" (http://search.yahoo.com/mrss/). Please read these specifications and manuals to your RSS aggregation tool.

It seems like the Kinkydollars RSS has too many custom options. How do I skip the custom stuff?
Our RSS Feeds include lots of details so you can create feature rich blogs and promo sites, but you don't have to use them all. Just configure your RSS Agent to ignore options you don't need. Refer to its documentation on how to do it.

------------------------------------------

They seem to suggest that it is the issue with the readers or scripts importing the feeds and that we would need to correct it on our end to use their feeds properly.

Can you comment on this or make any recommendations on what might help in using these feeds?

Thank you

Tom

these feeds aren't rss2 blogging feeds where the content - html+pictures are in the DESCRIPTION or CONTENT:ENCODED tag.. thats why it won't work with most blogging tools..

I know that this is a late reply but I just started to read the posts.

I use yahoo pipes to rewrite some of the crappy feeds you get from some sponsors. the worst is not having proper publish dates (ie all the same).

Regards, J
