| after creating a new blog to have it show up on all the other blogs in link trades, do you have to go back in and edit each blog individually to add it to there list |

for the new blog if you enable "Include current blog in the Linktrades list from same category" and for rest blogs if you have enabled "Show blogs from same category in the Linktrades list of the current blog"
then you don't need to edit the blogs

yes.
actually there is no autointerlinking from different categories. To accomplish that you need to add the blog as linktrade in the "Link Trades" section
